One of the key factors that contributed to the growth of my natural hair was minimizing the use of harsh chemicals and heat styling tools. Chemical relaxers, texturizers, and excessive heat can weaken the hair strands and lead to breakage. Opting for natural hairstyles and embracing your hair’s natural texture not only promotes growth but also enhances its overall health and vitality.

Nourishing the Hair with Natural Oils

Another important aspect of my hair growth journey was the consistent use of natural oils. Oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, and castor oil are known for their nourishing properties. I started using a satin or silk pillowcase to minimize friction and reduce the chances of hair breakage. Alternatively, wrapping the hair in a silk scarf or bonnet provides an extra layer of protection and helps to preserve hairstyles.

Embracing Protective Styles for Length Retention

Protective styles, such as braids, twists, and updos, have been instrumental in retaining length during my hair growth journey. My all time favorite protective style that has been my go to and helped me retain length is mini-twist(a blog post on this soon). These styles help to minimize manipulation and reduce the exposure of the hair to harsh environmental factors. However, it’s important to ensure that the hair is not pulled too tightly to avoid tension and breakage.

Minimizing Manipulation and Excessive Styling

Excessive manipulation and styling can put stress on the hair and hinder its growth. I learned to be gentle with my hair and avoid excessive brushing, combing, and styling. Opting for low-manipulation hairstyles like having mini-twist or wearing wigs and using wide-toothed combs or fingers to detangle the hair helped to minimize damage and breakage.

Results may not be immediate, but by sticking to a healthy hair care routine and incorporating the mentioned practices, you will gradually see improvements in your hair’s length and overall health.
